Brittnay Gonzalez
Brittnay Gonzalez is an accomplished cosmetologist, educator, and entrepreneur who took ownership of Studio Shag Hair Salon & Boutique in December 2021. With a background in hairstyling dating back to 2006, she has honed her expertise through years of hands-on experience and education. In addition to running the salon, Brittnay is a dedicated instructor at McDowell Education Center’s C4 Cosmetology Program, where she helps train and mentor the next generation of beauty professionals. Her dual roles in teaching and salon ownership allow her to blend cutting-edge industry knowledge with a passion for client care, making Studio Shag a welcoming space for beauty and self-expression.
Rather than making sweeping changes upon taking over Studio Shag, Brittnay has taken a gradual, strategic approach to enhancing the salon’s services. She has already introduced eyelash extensions and body waxing and has plans to expand into nail and pedicure services. This thoughtful transition allows her to learn the business’s existing operations while steadily building upon its success. The salon, originally founded in 2013 by Tim Emmert, retains much of its charm, including its British-inspired décor, while also benefiting from Brittnay’s fresh perspective and leadership. With a client base spanning Columbus, Brown County, Bloomington, and even Louisville, the salon’s reputation continues to grow as a go-to destination for expert styling and personalized beauty care.
A key feature that sets Studio Shag apart is its dual function as both a salon and boutique, offering a curated selection of clothing, accessories, and locally sourced products. Brittnay carefully selects unique fashion pieces, including shawls, rompers, and jewelry, from vendors primarily based in California. She has also formed local business partnerships, such as with W.C. Elliot Farm, to offer handcrafted goat milk soaps in scents like Orange & Honey and Raspberries & Cream. These additions enhance the client experience, transforming the salon into more than just a place for hair services—it’s a one-stop destination for self-care and stylish finds.

She works alongside a talented team of independent stylists, ensuring they stay up to date with the latest trends through training from industry leaders like Kenra, Paul Mitchell, and Matrix. Her entrepreneurial spirit, combined with her dedication to customer satisfaction and stylist development, has helped maintain Studio Shag’s reputation as both a high-end beauty salon and a welcoming neighborhood staple.
